Another stalemate at Elland Road in a game of few chances. City defend well and Harrold dominates Tommy Howarth who rarely got a kick.

Leeds become the first team to score at Filbert Street this season but return home empty handed following a 2-1 defeat against the promotion favourites. United's cause was not helped by the fact Swan received a nasty cut to his cheek and was off the field for 15 minutes during the first half. Both sides go close in the opening exchanges but Graham puts the hosts in front, although there's a hint of offside. Their lead is extended when J Duncan heads home Tompkin's cross and despite Leicester dominating the second half, Harris pulls a goal back and Leeds are denied an unlikely at the death when Hebden saves from Swan.

Percy Whipp becomes an instant hero at Leeds having signed yesterday from Sunderland. The forward grabs a debut day hat-trick as United return to winning ways. West Ham's Moore misses a glorious opportunity in the opening minute and then Whipp takes charge. He opens the scoring from 15 yards and although Moore equalisers with just a minute left of the first half, Whipp puts Leeds back in front, with 20 minutes left, by heading home Harris' corner. The dream debut is rounded off with a late penalty after Hodgson handles inside the area.

South Shields become the first side to win at Elland Road this season but Leeds only have themselves to blame as they dominate the game and miss a host of chances. Joe Potts commits a foul on the edge of the area and the ensuing free-kick leads to Oxberry's 33rd minute goal.

Goals from Percy Whipp and Billy Poyntz, in cold and windy conditions, give Leeds the two point as revenge is gained for last weeks home defeat. Whipps lobs the keeper following a corner, with only three minutes gone and after Walker saves from the Poyntz, the later knocks in the rebound to double the lead. Early in the second half Jimmy Walton hits the bar and despite some late pressure from the hosts, Leeds hold firm.

Leeds' excellent forms continues thanks to two goals by Joe Richmond at Coventry. The game is played in bad light and as a result, the teams changed ends after 45 minutes and got straight on with the second half. Richmond puts Leeds in front with a fine header and then doubles the advantage before Toms sets up a tense finish when he pulls a goal back with seven minutes to go.
