With 20 minutes to go, Chris Fairclough is sent off following an altercation with Mark Ward. The ten men leave it late but seal three points thanks to an acrobatic volley from in-form striker Rodney Wallace. John Lukic keeps the visitors at bay with fine saves from Peter Beardsley and Matt Jackson.

Gary Speed rescues a point in an entertaining encounter. The away side go in front when Paul Allen's cross is bundled in by David Howell's despite the best efforts of Mel Sterland. Leeds equalise when Erik Thorstvedt can't hold a Gordon Strachan corner and Speed smashes the ball into the net. John Lukic produces excellent saves to deny Vinny Samways, Paul Walsh and Gordon Durie whilst Rodney Wallace goes close for Leeds.

Leeds edge closer to the title with a win over the Sky Blues at Elland Road. Rod Wallace goes close and Jon Newsome denies Kevin Gallacher in a nervy opening. The breakthrough comes early in the second half when Brian Borrows' mis-cued clearance is headed home by Chris Fairclough. The win is sealed with nine minutes to go when Lloyd McGrath is sent off for handball on the line and Gary McAllister scores from the spot. The win guarantees Leeds a UEFA Cup place at worst.
