Brian Deane grabs his first goal at Elland Road a minute after the interval to set Leeds on their way to a resounding victoy. The big striker shrugs off the attention of Frank Sinclair to crash the ball past Kevin Hitchcock and it's soon 2-0 when Deane turns provider for Rod Wallace. In the 56th minute, the home side and Wallace score again when he fires home a Gary Kelly pass. David Rocastle scores a fine solo goal before Neil Shipperly nets a consolation goal from an acute angle.

Leeds earn a place in the fourth round thanks to a win over Crewe. Steve Hodge provides the opener for Brian Deane before Neil Lennon sets up Tony Naylor for the equaliser. Young striker, Jamie Forrester making his first start of the season volleys home a David White cross to put Leeds back in front before finishing a fine move seven minutes later.
