Christmas controversy at Ewood Park as Leeds are denied a blatant penalty for a foul on Frankie Gray. In the 20th minute, Gray works himself an opening but is sent crashing to the ground by Terry Gennoe but no penalty is awarded. To make matters worse, within two minutes Leeds are behind when Noel Brotherston heads home an Ian Miller cross. Neil Aspin goes close with a couple of headers but an equaliser comes when after being put through by John Sheridan, Tommy Wright crosses for George McCluskey to head past Gennoe. However, just two minutes later, Phil Hughes fails to deal with a corner and Colin Randell hooks the ball past him for the winner.
