Leeds' season gets off to the worst possible start at the seaside. Blackpool striker, Mudie leaves the field for treatment after just five minutes but returns soon after and crashes a shot against the bar. The home side take a deserved lead four minutes into the second half when Durie heads home a cross from Stanley Matthews and Perry adds a second two minutes later. Hugh Baird misses a great chance to get Leeds back into the game but Taylor adds a third to seal a comprehensive Blackpool win.

Leeds put Villa to the sword at Elland Road to gain revenge for the defeat at Villa Park. Saward's weak back pass is intercepted by Baird who rounds the 'keeper to open the scoring just before the interval. The home side then take control with further goals in the second half. O'Brien finishes following Baird's through ball and Brook adds a third from Hair's free kick before Baird rounds off the scoring.

Nottingham Forest inflict a third straight defeat on Leeds who ring the changes following the defeat at home to Luton. Wilson heads the opener after 11 minutes but Jackie Overfield levels eight minutes later following a fine run. Both sides have efforts ruled out before Barrett scores the winner in the closing stages.

Preston win an incredible game at Elland Road with all the goals coming in the first half. Alston, deputising for the injured Tom Finney, beats Jack Charlton before calmly slotting home after just three minutes to open the scoring. Ten minutes later, Baxter doubles the visitors lead from the penalty spot after handball by Eric Kerfoot and it's soon 3-0 when Alston's shot is saved but Mayers taps in the rebound. Leeds fightback and Hugh Baird scores two penalties in three minutes, both awarded for fouls on Keith Ripley by Willie Cunningham. Baird goes close to equalising in the second half but Preston hold on.

Once again Leeds find themselves 3-0 down and the fightback falls short. Wednesday take the lead after six minutes when Froggatt's shot comes back off the bar and Jimmy McAnearney taps home the rebound. Froggatt makes it 2-0 a minute later and then adds a third following a corner. Leeds reply through Ripley and Forrest but their cause isn't helped when Grenville Hair has to leave the field for treatment in the second half. Hair returns for the last ten minutes but the visitors can't find an equaliser.

Play is held up in the second half due to an injury to the referee, Sant and linesman Speake replaces him. Burnley seal the victory with six minutes left through Shackleton.

Wilbur Cush gives Leeds the lead after the Blackpool goalkeeper fumbles Overfield's cross. Taylor levels in the second half but Leeds score again three minutes later, through Bobby Forrest, to win the game.

The Leeds manager, Raich Carter pleads for the introduction of substitutes, calling the situation crazy.

Nugent scores the winner three minutes after the equaliser and although both sides press in the second half, there are no further goals.

The second half proves to be a scrappy affair but Baird equalises for Leeds.

Leeds dominate the second half but leave the midlands empty handed after a Jack Charlton own goal gives Albion the points. Allen's shot, in the 27th minute comes back off the upright and in attempt to clear, Charlton slices the ball into his own net. Leeds hit the post late on.

Tom Finney's shot goes in off the post as Preston take charge at Deepdale. Thompson adds a second after half an hour when he scores from a Mayers cross and Finney seals the win five minutes after the interval. Leeds have a few chances but Baird and Kerfoot are both denied.

George Meek scores a superb diving header to put Leeds in front in a game originally postponed on 8th February. Following fine play by Meek and O'Brien, Noel Peyton completes the win in the dying minutes to take Leeds out of the bottom three and above Newcastle who lose at Preston.

Little George Meek is on the scoresheet again as Leeds triumph. The winning goal comes in the final minute of the first half following a cross from Cush which Smith failed to clear. Burnley come close but Pilkington's header is well saved by Roy Wood.

Hugh Baird scores a fine solo goal to give Leeds a massive win and a boost in their fight against the drop. Everton blow a great chance to level when Jimmy Harris sees his penalty saved by Roy Wood after Gibson had handled in the 20th minute. The home side also hit the bar through Thomas but Leeds hold on.

Wednesday deny Leeds two vital points in the Yorkshire derby relegation battle. Hugh Baird goes close early on but it's Meek who scores the opener from 12 yards. The visitors level nine minutes later when Derek Wilkinson finishes from close range. Leeds are back in front when Baird scores against the run of play but the visitors have the final say when Shiner tucks away a pass from Fantham to earn a point.

A dull game bursts into life with two goals in a minute halfway through the second half. George O'Brien gives Leeds the lead when he turns on a cross from Cush and places a shot beyond Schofield. The hosts respond immediately when Orritt scores from 20 yards. Meek misses a great chance late on but a draw is a fair result.

The 1957-58 season finishes on a high with a victory on Tyneside following a sensational start. Only 20 seconds have passed when Peyton's pass reaches O'Brien who fires Leeds into the lead. Hugh Baird increases the advantage after 72 minutes with his 20th goal of the season but the home side immediately reduce the arrears when Mitchell hooks home a cross from Hughes.
